Our Summer Camp Program
At Curiosity Villa Learning Center, our summer program is focused on culinary arts. We use cooking and baking as a means to teach our STREAM learning, which is a hands-on approach to support the spiritual, physical, social-emotional, language, literacy, and cognitive development of every child while helping children meet age-appropriate developmental milestones.
Through our S.T.R.E.A.M. Learning (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), children engage in meaningful learning experiences using cooking and activities. Children learn to count, measure, compare quantities, sort foods by color, shape, texture, and weight, and follow step-by-step directions while preparing recipes. These activities strengthen problem-solving, critical thinking, early math, and literacy skills.
Children learn science by observing the physical and chemical changes foods undergo during cooking and baking. They also learn kitchen safety, sanitary food practices, personal hygiene, and the proper use of kitchen tools and utensils.
Our culinary program also promotes language development by increasing children’s knowledge of cooking vocabulary, communication skills, and comprehension through discussions, recipe reading, and hands-on instruction. Social-emotional growth is encouraged through teamwork, cooperation, conflict resolution, sharing responsibilities, patience, and learning proper table manners.
Physical development is strengthened through fine motor activities such as stirring, pouring, kneading, decorating, and using child-safe utensils. Creativity and self-expression are encouraged through food decorating and creative cooking projects.
Children also gain an appreciation for different cultures through diverse food experiences and learn values such as gratitude, respect, kindness, and cooperation. Our culinary-based curriculum creates a fun, engaging, and nurturing environment where children learn essential academic and life skills through exploration, creativity, and hands-on experiences.
