Our Summer Camp Program

Culinary Arts Summer Program

At Curiosity Villa Learning Center, our Culinary Arts Summer Program brings learning to life through the exciting world of cooking and baking. Our eight-week summer program is designed to provide children with meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that support their spiritual, physical, social-emotional, language, literacy, and cognitive development while helping them build age-appropriate developmental skills and milestones.

Through our S.T.R.E.A.M. Learning approach—Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics— children engage in fun and meaningful learning experiences through cooking, baking, food exploration, and creative culinary activities. Children practice counting, measuring, comparing quantities, sorting foods by color, shape, texture, and weight, and following step-by-step directions while preparing recipes. These activities help strengthen early mathematics, problem-solving, critical-thinking, reading, and literacy skills.

Children explore science by observing the physical and chemical changes that occur when foods are mixed, heated, cooled, baked, or otherwise prepared. They also learn important kitchen safety practices, sanitary food-handling procedures, personal hygiene, and the proper use of age-appropriate kitchen tools and utensils.

Our culinary experiences support language and literacy development by introducing children to cooking vocabulary, encouraging communication and conversation, and developing comprehension through recipe reading, discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on instruction. Social-emotional development is strengthened as children work together, share responsibilities, practice cooperation, resolve conflicts, develop patience, and learn appropriate table manners.

Physical development is supported through fine-motor activities such as stirring, pouring, kneading, mixing, measuring, decorating, and using child-safe utensils. Children are also encouraged to express their creativity through food decorating, recipe creations, and other hands-on culinary projects.

The program provides opportunities for children to explore and appreciate different cultures and food traditions while developing important values such as gratitude, respect, kindness, cooperation, and responsibility. Through these experiences, children learn that cooking and baking can be both creative and educational while developing practical life skills they can use every day.

Summer Camp Schedule and Fees

The Culinary Arts Summer Camp will be an eight-week program offered each year from approximately the last week of June through the second week of August. Because the program follows the Frederick County Public Schools academic calendar, exact summer camp dates will vary from year to year based on the school system's scheduled summer break.

The summer camp will operate during the regular hours of Curiosity Villa

Learning Center:

Monday–Friday | 7:15 AM–6:00 PM

The regular childcare tuition for the summer program will be $350 per week per child. In addition, there will be a one-time Little Chefs Summer Camp fee of $150 per child for the eight-week program. This additional fee helps cover the cost of culinary program supplies, including ingredients, baking and cooking utensils, and chef coats.

Our Culinary Arts Summer Program creates a fun, engaging, nurturing, and educational environment where children can learn by doing, explore their curiosity, develop essential academic and life skills, and discover the joy of cooking and baking.
